The doubling of the number of 5G base stations and the introduction of large-scale Multiple Input Multiple Output (MIMO) technology have led to a significant increase in 5G power consumption. The power consumption of 5G base stations is 2.5 to 3.5 times that of 4G base stations, which is a huge test for the construction and maintenance of operators. Building a greener and sustainable 5G network has become one of the hotspots in the field of operation management.
The energy-saving solution developed by this Catalyst project consists of three parts:
- Coordination between 4G and 5G for energy saving
- 5G cell sleep
- Tunnel shutdown strategy in the background of 5G large-scale antenna
The project will show how the technology can be used to create a sustainable 5G future.
